Tent - 2-Person Free-Standing Tent for Car Camping

This two-person classic style is our least expensive tent - even less expensive than our backpacking one-person tents - but it is more than adequate for the typical backpacking or car-camping trip for a couple. This tent is "free-standing", which means there are no stakes required to hold it up, and it can be moved around after setup. This makes it great for rocky or hard ground where driving stakes might be a problem, or for those who want something really simple to pitch - unfold the two poles, attach the clips, and you're done. But you're not going to blow away either; there are loops that can be staked with the provided pegs for better wind resistance.

Then why is this one cheaper? It's minus a few bells and whistles that our more backpacking-oriented 2-Person Tent features, but those bells might not be important to you. Specifically, it's several pounds heavier; isn't as resistant to severe weather; and doesn't have a vestibule created by the fly cover for protecting your gear. If none of that is any big deal, this is the tent for you. All-in-all, we think it's a great tent for the price.

Like most of our others, this free standing 2-person tent is a two-wall tent: the tent body, which includes some mesh material on the walls for maximum ventilation, plus a waterproof fly cover that goes over the body for protection against rain and provides more insulation. It has two doors for easy in/out access by both campers. Most of our tents in this series are from Alps Mountaineering, a USA manufacturer that supplies a lot of Scout troops - we like them too.

The peak interior height on these is almost 4', over a fairly good-sized area (7.5' long by about 5' wide), so this tent has more headroom than our other two-person tents. Weighing in around 6.5 pounds on your back, it's not bad at all for two hikers to share. Any 2-person tent will be sorta cozy for two adults. Consider a 4-person tent for more comfort and elbow room if weight is not an issue.

We have lots of advice about the great outdoors including more information on tents and shelters for camping and backpacking such as how to choose the best tent and how to find and make a good camp site.
