Standing up while paddling various types of water craft has been around for thousands of years.  Surprisingly given its current popularity, it only started as we know it on today's style of stand-up boards fairly recently in the 1940s.  Like surfing, it gained momentum on the west coast and is now often rated as one of the top outdoor activities nationwide.  It's a sport and exercise suitable for about any age - just add water!  We focus mainly on inflatable models - their performance has about just caught up with rigid styles for most uses and they are much easier to store and transport.
