Prepping for a hiking or backpacking trip is more than just renting some hardware-related gear like a pack and sleeping bag
, etc and hitting the trail. A well-thought-out trip will include some good planning to meet your dining needs
, hydration needs
, and of utmost importance, taking care of your feet.
Shoes are Priority 1, and socks are Priority 1A.
For socks, Darn Tough is a market leader for hiking use, with comfortable designs and rugged life-time warranties. These are an exponential improvement over socks you can find for $5 or so - you'd pay hundreds to get rid of the blister pain you can develop with cheap cocks out on the trail! Take one of our first-aid kits
just in case.
The fabric blend on these includes merino wool and synthetic materials, so they breathe well in both hot and cold conditions. Available options include quarter-height (slightly over ankle) and micro-crew, which will be about 2" taller above the ankle. Get the latter if you typically wear mid-height boots.
These are sized for men as follows:
SMALL 5.5 - 7.5
Women's sizes run about 2 points higher than men, so for example a women's size 9.5 or smaller would want a 'small' size pair of socks.
Colors vary depending on what we have on hand at our retail store at time of order, but will be either "Oatmeal" - a kind of desert tan tone, or, "Smoke", which is a charcoal, darker tone. Select your height and foot size preference with the dropdowns. Happy feet!
Another thing to consider will be inserts to pair with your shoes. Aside from these socks, a nice pair of Spenco Hiking Shoe Inserts
can do wonders for your feet when out on the trail. Check them out!
