Grand Canyon Backpacking
Backpacking in the Grand Canyon is a different experience, and requires at least a couple pieces of different gear to best enjoy the experience - we've got what you need to be prepared for an adventure of a lifetime!  Most trailheads are at lower elevation and you work your way up the hills - easy to tell when you've had enough and it's time to turn around.  For the Grand Canyon, you start out on a really flat plateaus and work your way downhill - and it seems so easy to work through those first miles.  If it wasn't for that pesky need to climb back out when you're done.

The hiking poles in our rental packages keep you steady and reduce the knee-pounding on the way down, and give you some lift on the way back up.  Depending on which trail you're navigating, that's up to a 6,000-foot elevation change, and trekking poles can make a huge difference.

Throw in some unpredictable weather - other than it's always super-hot down there in the summer - and you'll want to make sure you have reliable, lightweight gear with you.  Like the packs, tents and other gear we rent.  The "rat sacks" you see in the packages isn't really for rats, but the squirrels, ravens and other human-acclimated critters in the Canyon are notorious for running off with a careless backpacker's food.  

We have packages for 1-3 hikers, and if your crew is bigger than that, just do multiples of these to accommodate your entire group.  

Packages can be picked up at our store in Tempe if your travels are nearby, or we can ship in advance of your trip to your home, or for pickup in Sedona, Flagstaff, Vegas, or Kingman depending on your route in.
