If you're packing a full family on a road vacation, even in a large SUV it can get crowded.  We have 2 temporary cargo options from Thule - standard cartop carrier as long as you have cross bars, or a back-of-car cargo box option if you have a trailer hitch.  That way Junior doesn't have to hold a suitcase in his lap all the way to San Diego.
