Placid Lake State Park is a public recreation area located 28 miles northeast of Missoula, Montana. The state park sits on 31 acres at the eastern end of Placid Lake that include the lake's outlet to Owl Creek, a tributary of the Clearwater River. The park is known for its scenery, camping, aquatic recreation, and fishing.Placid Lake was named after the Adirondack Mountains' Lake Placid by Hiram Blanchard, a New Yorker who moved to the area in 1892 to form the Clearwater Land and Livestock Company. A dam was completed below the lake's Owl Creek outlet in 1972, and the park was created in 1977.

If you are a first-time camper, an overnight trip into Placid Lake State Park is a great way to get started – it’s probably close by, and the staff is used to advising families out on their first trip. Park facilities include a swimming area, campsites, and boat launch. Interpretive panels give an account of the early-day logging practices as evidenced by the massive western larch stumps in the area. There are 40 campsites, including 17 with electricity, plus a hike-bike camping site. The hike-bike site can accommodate 9 tents and is equipped with bicycle racks, fire rings, bear resistant food lockers, potable water, a bicycle maintenance stand, and a covered shelter with picnic table and electrical outlets.
