Penrose Point State Park is a 165-acre Washington state park located on Mayo Cove and Carr Inlet at the southern end of Puget Sound in Pierce County. The park has over 2 miles of saltwater shoreline as well as 2.5 miles of hiking and biking trails and an interpretive nature trail. Park activities include picnicking, boating, scuba diving, fishing, swimming, waterskiing, clam digging, crabbing, beachcombing, birdwatching, wildlife viewing, and horseshoes.

If you are a first-time camper, an overnight trip into Penrose Point State Park is a great way to get started – it’s probably close by, and the staff is used to advising families out on their first trip. The park was named after Dr. Stephen Penrose, the president of Whitman College in Walla Walla from 1884 to 1934. The park has over 2 miles of saltwater frontage on Mayo Cove and Carr Inlet. Wildlife, birds, and forested terrain make this a beautiful park. The park sets on the shores of Mayo Cove and Carr Inlet and offers a wide variety of water activities. Impressive stands of fir and cedar share space with ferns, rhododendrons, wildlife, and birds.
