Hope Island State Park - Mason is a Washington state park in Mason County that is accessible only by boat. It consists of 106 acres of old-growth forest and salt marsh with a 1.5-mile beach on Puget Sound. Park activities include picnicking, camping, hiking, fishing, clamming, beachcombing, and birdwatching. The park is administered as a satellite of Jarrell Cove State Park. Water is not available on the island, and open-fires and pets are not permitted. The island can only be reached by watercraft – motorized, human- or wind-powered. Located near Steamboat Island in the Squaxin Passage, Hope Island's terrain is made up of Douglas-fir, cedar, hemlock, alder and maple trees.

If you are a first-time camper, an overnight trip into Hope Island State Park is a great way to get started – it’s probably close by, and the staff is used to advising families out on their first trip.
