Bay View State Park is a public recreation area located on Padilla Bay in Skagit County, Washington, USA. The state park's 66 acres include 1,285 feet of shoreline and facilities for camping, picnicking, fishing, swimming and beachcombing. It originated in 1925 when the Skagit County Agricultural Association donated land to the state to be used for park purposes. The park is crossed by a stretch of the Pacific Northwest Trail. Pull up a camp chair, place it facing north, sit down and stay awhile. Bay View State Park on Padilla Bay overlooks the San Juan Islands and offers up magnificent views of the archipelago.

If you are a first-time camper, an overnight trip into Bay View State Park is a great way to get started – it’s probably close by, and the staff is used to advising families out on their first trip. We make it easy to rent gear as well if you are aren’t sure what to take – check out our camping gear packages for easy shopping. Just add food and water!

On clear or partially clear evenings, the skies light up and cast the islands in silhouette against the bright sunset colors. This tiny park has a larger, interesting neighbor: Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve makes up 11,000 acres of the bay and draws students, scientists, activists and citizens for research, education, awareness, and training. This reserve is one of five such protected areas in the western United States. Its habitat includes open waters, eelgrass beds, intertidal bays, uplands, freshwater sloughs, and high salt marsh.
