Repel Lemon Eucalyptus Insect Repellent I can put up with man-eating bears and venomous snakes, but bugs just about get the best of me. From flies the size of hamsters to gnatty no-see-ums, nothing is more irritating while hiking than buzzing things flying around your ears, carefully looking for any facial orifice to fly into. And then there’s the tick, an amazing creature that can seemingly jump onto you from several feet away if he spots bare leg skin. We carry a good bug repellent for those who prefer not to smell like the local Union Carbide plant and for those with sensitive skin - a 4 ounce pump of Lemon Eucalyptus. Non-sticky, made from same plant extracts used for Citronella. Works for several hours before re-application is needed.
Other de-bugging tips: To apply repellent to your face, spray on your hands and then dab on your face. If you sweat a lot, avoid applying on your forehead so the repellent doesn’t flow down into your eyes. After application, rinse your hands off – frequently. Several times during the day, check yourself closely for ticks. Watch where you sit down when taking a break. If you are allergic to stings, always pack your medications. Spray repellent on your clothes, particularly pant legs, to help deter ticks. Watch your kids; they aren't as good at swatting bugs away as you are, but on the other hand, may not tolerate high concentrations of repellent either. Sometimes body chemistry comes into play – some hikers are just more attractive to bugs than others – and no amount of repellent will keep all bugs away.
