MSR Canister Stove Fuel This is the fuel canister for the Pocket Rocket, our featured backpacking stove. It contains 8 ounces of a blend of Iso-butane and propane, a very efficient-burning fuel that’s easy to work with, relatively odorless and mess free.
The canister is threaded to accept the stove, so all you have to do is screw the stove burner into the top of the canister, turn open the stove’s valve, set a match to it, and you’re ready to do anything from boiling water to cooking gourmet.
A full canister weighs about ¾ pound, and one canister should boil about 15 quarts of water in moderate temperature and altitude. If you figure a bare minimum daily usage of a cup for oatmeal, a cup for tea, and 2 cups for a dinner mix, each hiker will go thru at least a quart of boiled water a day. Calculate your own usage estimates, but I’d at least double that. So one canister should last one hiker about 1 week, or two hikers on a long weekend trip. For efficient packing, the canister will nest perfectly inside the Titan Kettle.
This is a purchase only item; these fuel canisters retail for $5. You cannot carry this type of fuel onto an airplane, so do not purchase from us if your trip involves air travel; you'll need to pick some up at your destination.
