How this works...

These tents are designed for one person, typically for a backpacking trip where minimum gear weight and size-in-your-pack are important. If you want to share a tent with a friend (warning - make sure it's a close friend with any 2-person tent), or just want more room for yourself, check into renting a 2-person backpacking tent. If you are car camping where space and weight are not an issue rent a 2-person car camping tent instead. If you're not sure what specific items of gear will be best to take, check out our preset gear packages for easy one-selection shopping for different types of wilderness trips.

Most of the backpacking tents we rent are rated as "Three-Season", but with aerodynamic design and low profile should protect you just fine even in high, cold winds if it is well staked. Heavy snows could be a problem if allowed to stack up on top. If you find yourself in a heavy snow storm one night, you should get up every now and then and brush off the snow before it can accumulate. A couple of inches shouldn't hurt it. It you're in for real gnarly winter weather, consider renting a 4-season tent for better protection.

We have had a range of options in this tent line over 20+ years - naturally, models come and go. Our current offering is the Soul 1 from Big Sky International  -  a specialist in lightweight gear you'll find with a lot of backpackers on the long trails.  The configuration on this model is light, but not delicate materials, and it's free standing so it's easy to find a place to set it up. For specs and photos, see our how-to-setup page for this rental tent, or check out its Big Sky product listing.  We do not include a ground cover with our tents, as generally we find them overkill except in unusual weather circumstances.  If you believe you will need something like that, consider purchase of some Tyvek (a sheet 3-feet wide would be more than enough) or rent a tarp.  Other models may be provided for your rental, but will be of similar size and materials.

We have lots of advice about the great outdoors including more information on tents and shelters for camping and backpacking such as how to choose the best tent and how to find and make a good camp site. Feel free to call us anytime at 480-348-8917 with any question about your camping and backpacking gear rental needs! We also have a good selection of used tents available.
